Church of St Francis of Assisi

The beads of the Rosary are divided into 5 decades; each decade representing an event from the life of Christ. These 5 events are grouped into 4 sets of Mysteries (Joyful, Luminous, Sorrowful and Glorious), reflecting on Christ’s birth, life, passion, death and resurrection. When praying the Rosary, each day of the week is assigned a set of the mysteries to pray for that day.

Rosary or rosarium means a crown of roses, a spiritual bouquet given to the Blessed Mother. It is in a form of chaplet or corona (crown), of which there are many varieties in the Church. Finally, in English it has been called "Our Lady's Psalter" or "the beads." This last derives from an Old English word for prayers (bede) and to request (biddan or bid).
