Cancer occurred in my life three times. The first was in 2005 when my husband was diagnosed with stage 4B lung cancer and he passed away in 2007. The second time was in 2009 when I was diagnosed with Stage 0 breast cancer and I had mastectomy on my left breast. Recently, I was again diagnosed with stage 1 breast cancer. People always tell me that I’m brave and strong but I’m not. I cried when I came out of the doctor’s office. I was scared.

How did I survive my husband’s loss and my own pain? The answer is the Trinity. I prayed to God the Father; the Son carries my pain and suffering, and the Holy Spirit gives me strength and peace. It is during these dark periods of my life that I feel the presence of the Divine Persons. He gives me strength, peace and most of all joy.

Even though I walk through the valley of the shadow of death,I fear no evil; for you are with me; your rod and your staff, they comfort me. (Psalm 23:4)
